How long does your act last?

My shows last approximately 1 or 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

How long have you been performing as a clown?

I have performed as a clown for the last 9 years. In 1996 the Encino Community Church hosted a series of clown classes, moderated by a Shriner Clown for members interested in clowning. Afterwards, I became a member of the World Clown Association and in June 1998 received a free scholarship to Clown Camp at the University of La Crosse, Wisconsin. It is there that I received my certificate for study in Clownology. I trained in the skills of clown skits, face-painting, animal balloons, clown magic and it was there that I developed the original look, character & costume for POPO the Clown. Since then, Popo's look and costume have changed substantially to a more friendly, happier clown in order to be more inviting to children.

As a member of the Clowns of America International, I have received training at several conventions (including the Mooseburger Clown Camp), and received Certificates of Participation in makeup, skits and paradeability at the 1999 Texas Clown Association Convention. I have been performing as a clown ever since.

I'm a member in good standing of local Ring 21 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, which has helped me greatly in developing my skill in presentation, misdirection and the Art of magic in general.

I am a self-taught ventriloquist with two puppets, Jo Jo (a Charlie McCarthy dummy) and Sally (a hand-made wooden dummy).

I am currently acting President of the Ventriloquist Club of Southern California (in honor of its originator, Dan Payes) based in Eagle Rock, California. Trained ventriloquists and ventmakers come to share their love of the Art with each other on the second Tuesday of each month.

How would you best describe your act?

The best way I can describe my act is to say that I perform "clown fun" for children. I am a friendly clown who always waits for the child to come up to me and want to watch my act or be involved. Children love balloons and silly magic with doves and I teach them how to hold the doves and become friends with them.

My puppets talk to the children and they are amazed that the puppets are talking and not me. Parents laugh also and like my magic and even want their faces painted sometimes. If the parents see that the children are happy, they are happy with the show.
